Doesn’t time fly?

Can’t believe another few months have passed. I’ve been so busy with various projects that I haven’t been a good boy and haven’t added regular posts to my blog.

What I’ve Been Up To

Hi – usual story – I keep forgetting to update my blog. This time I do have an excuse – well. several in fact.

I’ve set up a number of websites for HM Forces personnel – I’ll tell you all about them later but one I am particularly excited about is:

www.bestforcesinsurance.co.uk

I think I can negotiate some great deals for forces personnel…watch this space.

Just a short one for now…I’LL BE BACK!!

Lots Happening

Well – it’s been awhile…again!

I’ve been looking at various opportunities – I’ve been offered a position with an investment company in Singapore – looks very interesting.

I’ve also been keeping fit – regular gym visits…but no more rugby – now getting physio for whiplash picked up on 30th Jan in a game for Trinity Accies against Preston Lodge (rough bunch!)

I’ve also been practising my SEO ’stuff’ (Search Engine Optimisation) and I’ve put a site together that offers a fantastic product for curing panic and anxiety (A friend of my mine is currently using it). Have a look at it here:

Since Last Time…

Well, I have been a busy bee (using the bee analogy because I’ve just watched Gladiator and the nasty Caesar uses it as a threat!).

My rugby days are finally, finally, most certainly, OVER. The niggling pain in the head/neck area, since I took a bad tackle in a game against Preston Lodge on 30th Jan this year, turns out to be whiplash! I am now having phsio and have a series of exercises to do to ease it. Don’t know if any of you have ever had it but it hurts…badly at times! One good thing about it…I won’t be tempted to clean off the boots (not that I ever did clean them) and hunt the gumshield out…I am now officially retired.

On the work front – the mortgage industry is still reeling and the days of the one-man-band are over. The new FSA regulations that are coming in will put the final nail in the coffin. I have been putting the feelers out for employment for the first time in over 20 years. I have had an offer to join a company in Singapore and I am pretty sure I’ll accept it – I would want to go towards the end of the year though.

Socially – very quiet! I am practically teatotal these days and not missing having a drink – I like being clear headed at the weekends, not that I was much of a drinker anyway. This is just a brief update – I will add to it more regularly.

Spring has sprung

At last…!

Here we are, on the cusp of summer. Last day of March, leaving behind the dark days of winter. The gentle feel of the sun on my face…er, no! As I look out my study window I see the snowflakes being blown at a verticle angle, the wind is rattling the window-panes, the sky is dark and my fleece is zipped to the chin. WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Although I am a little wary of some of the doomsayers and their apocalyptic visions of a decimated planet because of our profligacy and complete infifference (amongst many) to the needs of this planet, I do think something

Erin and Hailey (pal) at Edinburgh Festival

weird is going on. I was taking my daughter Erin to school today and she was appropriately dressed in her spring attire – wellies, huge coat and scarf and her gloves – unbelievable!

On a lighter note, having run my own financial services business for many years I am now promoting my services online – looking for a good company to give me the backing so I can focus on bringing my great marketing skills to the world! I think most people in the financial serices business know that the FSA do NOT want one-man-bands any longer – it probably takes as much to monitor and supervise the small IFA/Mortgage Broker as it does a medium-sized firm. I think that, reading the comments on the various blogs/forums, many small firms have to spend so much time on compliance and regulations and admin that they are left with little time to provide good, worthy advice to their clients. It seems to me that if a good adviser can work with the support of a good team – knowing they are dealing with the bulk of what I call the ‘peripheral’ ’stuff’ – the adviser can get out ‘there’ where he/she should be…helping clients.

Since I went ‘live’ with my CV last week I am amazed at the great response I’ve had. Not only from Fin.Services companies, it has to be said – it’s a very exciting time and I’m raring to go.

It’ll get better!

Sore…

I think the weekends exertions are a hint to me, from my battered bod, to stop being silly! I’m just a kinda guy who finds it hard to say NO!

I was in two minds about playing on Sunday but, Graham (known as lumpy from the hump of tissue piled up on his back from his days playing tight-head prop), club sec, called me a couple of times with a mixture of guilt-inducing exhortations to play and a layer of complimentary ‘guff’ – saying what a difference I would make to the team (my ball-ripping is legendary…apparently!). Sooo – here I amthree days later, ligaments on left knee knackered, left ankle strapped up and face bruised and looking a litle ‘thuggish’.

Even my biggest supporter of carrying on playing, my daughter, Erin, thinks it might be time to stop. I now thinks she has a point and I have made a decision – no more! Final and irrevocable – NO MORE! Maybe!

Sore!

Happy days!

Well, that was fun – kind-of! Played two games, 15 mins a half, got beat twice, second game a bit closer!

I am now hobbling about, throwing ibuprofen down my throat, took a knock to theleg (whichwas heavily strapped up anyway as i have problems with it – the left leg). My ligaments have taken a bashing so I’m praying that when I take the strapping off (I have been to meet a friend for coffee – still strapped up…he thinks I’m mad for playing) my leg won’t collapse.

Ah, well, it was for charity and I did see some of the guys I used to play with. I guess it’s worth it, possibly, maybe!

A hot bath, some food and a stretch on the settee and pray I can walk tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted.

By the way the teams that beat us (I was playing for Trinity Accies), just to give them their due, were Musselburgh – not bad, and Linlithgow – very good.

Til’ next time.

Let’s go for it!

Not too old…yet!

Well, after some (not too much, it has to be said) thought, I have decided to play in the oldies tournament tomorrow (28th March) at Edinbhurgh Accies ground. It’s 10-aside, with a pile of former players, of varying skills, from different clubs strutting their stuff to raise money for a childrens charity (we have to pay to play).

I played in the last one and was happy just to have played against ex-Scotland and Lions skipper Gavin Hastings! Needless to say, his team, Watsonians, won it by a mile.

I’d better start ‘de-mudding’ my boots and looking for my gumshield…it’s been a while!

Keep you posted.

About My Site…

Hi, and thanks for dropping by. The aim of this site is to share some of my thoughts, views and experiences with you.

I’d love to hear from anybody ‘out there’ – on practically any subject.

I also want to promote myself to wouldbe employers so, on one of the pages I’ll lay out my employment experience.

The picture in the heading, by the way, was taken when i was doing something i really love – sailing. I was on a chartered yacht off the South of France, mid-summer, a few years ago. A very, very hot day!
